ART THAT CARRIES PRESENCE

Carelia Kuhn is an intuitive artist, muralist and designer whose work explores the relationship between art, energy, symbolism, space and lived experience.

Working across art, design, murals, sculpture and creative installations, Carelia brings together her visual design background with an intuitive approach to colour, form, texture, materials, symbolism and space. Her creative process is guided by intuition, embodied awareness and felt sense rather than a fixed formula. Each project develops organically from its own story, environment and intention, allowing the materials, symbolism and energetic elements to become part of the work as it unfolds.

From large-scale murals and public art to sculptural installations and mixed-media commissions, every piece becomes its own exploration of colour, material, meaning, energy and presence.

She doesn't create simply to fill a space. She creates to bring something into it.

“My art carries presence, not decoration.”
FEATURED WORK

🌈 Isabellas Restaurant (Waterfront)

West Coast Mural · Lambert’s Bay, South Africa
Where Rainbows Meet the Ocean
A colourful journey through the West Coast ocean, created for people to stop, explore, photograph and smile. The mural brings together waves, marine life, seabirds, colour, imagination and hidden details – transforming an everyday space into something unexpected.

From the giant whale tail rising from the ocean to the playful details waiting to be discovered, every section tells part of the story. And because public art is never really finished when people are still discovering it, every visitor becomes part of the experience.

🐙 Octopus Light Sculpture

Isabella’s Restaurant · Lambert’s Bay, South Africa
Encoded Mixed-Media Installation
Created as an aesthetic and energetic investment for a family restaurant, this sculptural octopus honours one of the ocean’s most remarkable creatures. Measuring 2400 × 1500 mm, the installation combines reclaimed materials, locally sourced shells, mixed media and electrical lighting. Created over 133.24 hours, its flowing tentacles explore themes of adaptability, perseverance, knowledge and emotional awareness.

Within the work, shells, spirals, colour, light and symbolic elements form part of an intentional energetic language — including Selenite, Sandalwood, Darshan, Numerical 18, Guardian Angel Mebahiah, Sacral, Third Eye and Crown Chakra frequencies, together with elements representing creativity, manifestation, awakening, wisdom and personal relationships.

Each Encoded Art commission carries its own language.

FROM CONCEPT TO CREATION
FROM WHAT IS TO WHAT CAN BE
Reclaimed and recycled materials often form part of the foundation of Carelia’s work. Materials that might otherwise be discarded can become the structure of something completely new – transformed through colour, texture, form and intention.

Each material carries its own history, and through the creative process that history can become part of something new. This isn’t simply about using recycled materials. It is about transformation. Nothing needs to remain what it was.

MORE THAN ART
Carelia’s creative work also extends into creating opportunities for young artists and the wider community. The first Bokkoms & Blomme Sandveld Jeugkunsfees, held in Lambert’s Bay, marked the beginning of a vision to create a broader platform for youth art across the West Coast. WESKUS Jeugkunsfees is being developed as an ongoing initiative to give young artists opportunities to create, exhibit their work and be recognised for their creativity, while bringing communities together through art. The first festival has begun the journey. There is much more to come.🎨🌊
COMMISSIONS
Create something unique for your space. Some artworks begin with a place. Others begin with a feeling, a story, a symbol or an intention. Carelia creates commissioned murals, sculptural installations and mixed-media artworks developed specifically for their environment. The process is intuitive and collaborative, allowing the artwork to develop according to the space, the story and the intended experience. Every commission becomes a collaboration between the artist, the space and the story it is created to hold.
